State of the magazine

As many of you know, the January issue of the magazine (#42) came out later than normal. As a result of calls and emails, I wanted to let everyone know the current state of affairs.

At this point, the business is a one-man operation. There is no way I could possibly produce the magazine without the assistance of the associate editors, cartographer, and photographer, but as far as the operation of the business and production of the magazine, it is just me.

While the business is growing, it is not currently able to provide a full-time income for me. Therefore, after taking a two-year leave of absence to run the business, I am back teaching school. Fortunately I was able to get a job-sharing position and teach three days a week instead of five. In addition, my wife and I have a three-year-old son and a six-month-old son which require a lot of our time.

I am not writing this to make excuses, but as an explanation of why things are as they are. It is why you may get voicemail when you call, why you might not get called back the next day, why it might be a few days before your email is answered, and why your order may not get processed the same day it is received. There simply aren't enough hours in the day.

It has been a struggle to handle all of these things and attempt to keep up with the business. Even so, I assure you that I will do everything I can to keep the business running in a timely manner and moving forward. After serving as editor for most of the last fifteen years and owner for almost four, the magazine is more than something I do, it is a part of who I am.

The good news is that everything should be back on schedule for the July issue. I am anticipating being able to hire someone in the near future that will dramatically increase the amount of work that can be done and keep everything running smoothly. Until then, I would like to thank you for your patience and understanding and reassure you that I plan on keeping the magazine in print for many years to come.

With regards,
